Cool FAB Championship Provides Much Excitement for Race Goers

Round 3 of the Cool FAB Racing British Minibikes Championship at Rowrah last weekend was one of the best round yet, with some exciting racing and a big announcement about the future of the Championship.

The three-day event got under way on Friday (27th May) with practice sessions followed by two full days of racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Crispin Vitoria, Managing Director of Cool Motor Racing, the company delivering Cool Milk’s 10-year sponsorship deal with FAB Racing, said: “It was another exciting weekend at Rowrah with lots of competitive racing and young talent out on the track. Over the weekend we announced that we’re working with seven British Superbike teams who will support their own junior teams in the Championship, a significant step forward in developing talent at grass roots level.

“By working with leading British Superbike teams; we’re helping to provide an infrastructure that encourages more young riders to try the sport and to take part in the Cool FAB Racing Championship. Our young riders will also have the opportunity to communicate with the people at the top of the sport; helping to cement a path into British Superbike racing.”

The AC40 Pro race at Rowrah saw no less than 25 riders competing for a top spot. Sandy Horne and Adon Davie, who came down from Scotland especially for the race, showed great strength and depth of the Scottish contingent. Sandy grabbed victory in the first and third race, while Adon took victory in the second race.

Cool FAB Racing regular Jack Hart took second place in two of the three races and came third overall behind Sandy and Adon.

In the AC40 Rookie category, Cameron Soole and Johnny Garness distinguished themselves from the pack. It is only Cameron’s first season but he took the top spot overall at Rowrah, closely followed by Johnny Garness and Aleksander Merchant.

Everything was left to play for in the MiniGP70 with current leader Elliot Pinson absent from the meet. Josh Whatley missed the Saturday race so had to start at the back of the grid on Sunday but made a good attempt at regaining his lead in the end, finishing a respectable fourth. Franco Bourne came first in all three races, meaning he took Elliot Pinson’s lead away.

In the Mini F1 sidecars category, Williams Racing seemed unbeatable on their custom built sidecar, which they built themselves.

The 2015 British F1 sidecar champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood, fresh from their own exciting race at Brands Hatch the previous weekend, were trackside to give the youngsters the benefit of their experience. The pair even got stuck in riding pit bikes in the practice sessions on Friday.

Ryan Charlwood said: “We remain impressed by the level of professionalism the kids demonstrate. Some of them are only six years old but they are giving it their all!

“We’re hoping that in our role as Cool FAB Racing ambassadors we can inspire the kids to keep putting in the hard work and dedication needed so they can potentially become future champions.”

Cool FAB Racing fans won’t have to wait long for the next bit of racing action. Round 4 of the championship will take place at Llandow in Wales from 10th until 12th June.

Crispin added: “For Llandow, we’re expecting to see more great racing as we approach the half way mark in the championship. The racing is becoming even more competitive as the riders battle it out for every valuable point and position on the grid. In the MiniGP70, Franco Bourne and Blake Ansell are tied on 152 points in the Championship, while in the AC40 Pro Sandy Horne and Adon Davie are neck and neck with only three points separating them overall!

“Because of our announcement at Rowrah, the number of riders expected over the weekend are higher than usual, so book your place early to avoid missing out!

“On top of the 2015 British F1 sidecar champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood, we’ll also be joined by British Superbike star Filip Backlund and British SuperSport rider Andy Reid, who is leading the British SuperSport Championship. All of these riders are fantastic ambassadors for the sport and we’re thrilled to be hosting them.”
