Tiko, a Lurcher cross breed, is looking for a new home

Could You Offer a New Home to Tiko?

Charity workers at Jerry Green Dog Rescue are looking for a home for their longest staying resident – a three-year-old Lurcher cross breed called Tiko.

Tiko has been staying at Jerry Green Dog Rescue for six months and the staff who look after him are anxious to find him a new home.

“Tiko is a lovely sweet boy who is lots of fun to be around,” said Jenny Harris, Fundraiser at Jerry Green Dog Rescue. “He is also very intelligent and loves to learn new things and he can always put a smile on your face with his cheeky personality!”

Tiko may be lucky enough to find a permanent home but Jerry Green is also looking for foster carers who can temporarily rehome and care for rescue dogs like Tiko.

The charity would like to recruit more foster carers across its five centres in Lincolnshire, Nottingham and Yorkshire to care for dogs that find it hard to adjust to kennel life, older dogs, dogs with health conditions and pregnant bitches and their puppies.

“After a while dogs like Tiko can become habituated to living in kennels and ultimately we want all our dogs to find a new home living with people,” said Jenny.

“We desperately need willing foster carers to come forward and care for dogs that need that bit of extra love and attention while we work to find them a forever home. Many people can’t have a dog full-time, but can part-time.

“For instance, people who are retired and do a lot of travelling, but would be willing to share their home with a dog, are perfect for fostering.”

Jenny said the typical period of time for fostering is between four and six weeks.

“Ideally we’re looking for people who have spare time on their hands and have experience looking after dogs. If you’re interested in becoming a foster carer contact your nearest centre for information on how to apply.”

Tiko is a Lurcher cross breed who was rescued as a stray by staff at the East Yorkshire centre of Jerry Green Dog Rescue six months ago.

“We’ve been working hard to rehome all our long stays and unfortunately Tiko is now the longest-staying resident across the whole charity,” said Jenny.

Jenny said Tiko has played well with other dogs and would be happy to share his new home with the right dog, but he does require further socialisation with dogs he doesn’t know.

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations: Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire; Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire; Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire; Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire; and Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding.  This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
