David and Michaela Have Marathon Poppy Appeal!

Running for 26 miles dressed as a poppy at this year’s London Marathon has proven a perfect way of raising cash!

David and Michaela Moulds, two regulars at The Elite Fish & Chip Company, ran the London Marathon yesterday (Sunday) and have so far raised over £2,000, with donations still pouring in.

The Elite Fish and Chip Company has chosen the Poppy Appeal as its charitable focus for 2016, the year when the ‘Poppies: Wave’ sculpture comes to Lincoln Castle.

When they heard that David Moulds and his wife Michaela from Welton were tackling the London Marathon, they agreed to sponsor the couple £1,000 to boost their fundraising for the Poppy Appeal. In previous marathons, David has donned a Bananaman costume but this year wore a poppy outfit, emblazoned with Royal British Legion and Elite logos.

Michaela said: “We’ve had a really amazing marathon and the support that Elite and the Poppy Appeal have given us, particularly online with social media, has been incredible!”

The couple both finished with new personal bests and even got stopped and filmed for the BBC1 coverage.

Michaela added: “There’s been overwhelming support and to raise as much as we have so far is brilliant. The race went much better than we thought; the only section we had problems with the wind blowing us back was at Tower Bridge, but that was where we stopped and talked to the BBC reporters!”

The couple were also filmed by the organisers of the marathon, Virgin Money, as well as the Royal British Legion’s fundraising teams.

Rachel Tweedale of the Elite Fish & Chip Company said: “We want to say a big well done to David and Michaela – it’s been a truly brilliant thing to be a part of. We’re impressed that David didn’t get carried away in the wind with the poppy costume he had on!

“We’ve been hard at it raising as much as we can, but we’re carrying on the collections in all our restaurants and takeaways, so dig deep and top up our total!”

Rachel added: “The Poppy Appeal does so much for the armed forces and we’re glad to be raising for such a worthy cause. Remember too that we always offer a 10% discount for all military personnel.”

Throughout 2016 The Elite Fish and Chip Company is set to host several events to raise money for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, including a 1940s vintage event starring Lincolnshire-based professional singer Heather Marie at its Sleaford restaurant on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 25th June.

You can still contribute to the fundraising via David and Michaela’s Virgin Money site.
