Greater Lincolnshire LEP

Devolution is Topic for Latest Big Debate

Business people and members of the public can have their say at a Big Debate about the idea of devolving powers to Greater Lincolnshire.

Two events organised by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP next month, in Brigg and Grantham, will allow people from all over Greater Lincolnshire to hear the arguments and make up their own mind about the prospect of devolution.

The first will take place at the Forest Pines Hotel near Brigg on Wednesday 6th July from 8am to 10am, and the second will be held at the Belton Woods Hotel near Grantham on Tuesday 19th July from 5pm until 7pm.

“Greater Lincolnshire is ready to take control of its own destiny and has negotiated the devolution of powers and funding with Government to do so,” said Ursula Lidbetter MBE, Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

“This would require the creation of a combined authority headed by a directly elected mayor. Our plans are ambitious, to boost our economy by £8bn, build 100,000 homes and create 29,000 jobs.

“These two debates are an opportunity for people to find out what devolution means for them and how it will work.”

Both events will feature a devolution briefing along with a panel of politicians and business leaders who will debate devolution, how it works, what powers Greater Lincolnshire will have, and what it will mean for people and businesses in the area.

There will also be an opportunity for those attending to feed into the consultation on the scheme for a Mayoral Combined Authority for Greater Lincolnshire.

To book your place or to suggest a question for the panel discussion, please call 01522 550515 or email enquiries@greaterlincolnshirelep.co.uk stating which event you would like to attend.

Throughout 2016 the Greater Lincolnshire LEP is staging a series of Big Debates about key issues. The first was a discussion of the Midlands Engine in Lincoln in May and more debates will be held later in the year, focusing on topics such as the agri-food sector.
