Duncan & Toplis Appoints a First-Class Trainee
Chartered accountants and business advisers Duncan & Toplis in Louth have a taken on a graduate trainee for the first time in several years.
Caitlin Porter (21) has joined Duncan & Toplis to kick-start her career in accountancy as an ACA trainee.
“I’m delighted to have been selected to be Duncan & Toplis’ ACA trainee. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into training come September,” she said.
“It’s early days so getting my head around everything is a bit of a challenge, but I’m enjoying it and everyone at Duncan & Toplis has been very helpful and supportive.”
Duncan & Toplis spotted Caitlin’s potential in 2013 when she completed two periods of paid work experience in the Louth office.
“I’ve always had an interest in and enjoyed maths; however I wanted to keep my career options open,” said Caitlin. “After completing my work experience at Duncan & Toplis I was inspired and knew accountancy was my destined career path.”
The ACA training programme begins in September and lasts for three years. Caitlin joined the Louth office on 1st July and she is currently familiarising herself with the firm’s clients and assisting with accounts.
Nick Cudmore, Partner at the Louth office, said: “We’re very pleased that Caitlin has taken up her trainee position with us and she is showing great promise.
“She did some paid work experience with us last summer and over the Christmas break and after gradauting she decided she wanted to return to Louth, which was great news for us.”
Caitlin’s father Mervyn fuelled her interest in maths by teaching her the basics of double entry bookkeeping and showed her how he did the accounts for his company Eastgate Engineering.
Caitlin studied financial mathematics at Nottingham Trent University and will be graduating with a first-class honours degree on 23rd July 2014.
