Food and Drink Businesses to Tuck into Technology

Lincolnshire-based food and drink growers and producers will have the chance to try out state-of-the-art equipment which could help grow their business at the Lincoln Technology Hub.

Select Lincolnshire members will visit the hub on 26th February between 8am and 10am to try out the equipment for themselves and find out what other support is available to businesses through Lincolnshire County Council’s onlincolnshire project.

Based in the University of Lincoln’s Architecture Building, the hub is home to a range of technology including 3D printers and scanners, a laser cutter and vacuum forming and milling machines. Food and drink sector businesses could use it to create a number of different products including labels, cutlery and food display stands.

During the session, onlincolnshire’s digital experts will also be on hand to discuss the benefits of online technology such as social media and apps and they can help promote businesses to a wider audience. In addition, members will get the chance to find out more and ask questions about graphic design, branding, web design and marketing.

“This event is a must for any Select Lincolnshire member who wants to improve and grow their business. We have an amazing selection of technology in all of our five hubs across the county which is available to use for very little cost,” explained Cllr Colin Davie, Executive Member for Economic Development at Lincolnshire County Council.

“During the event there will be a demonstration on how to use the equipment, including using the laser cutter to create the Love Food Select Lincolnshire stamp, but no technical jargon – just simple, easy to understand demos to help Select Lincolnshire businesses to grow.

“The aim is to inform the county’s growers and producers about the new technology that’s now available and give them a chance to put it through its paces. However, it will also provide a valuable opportunity to network and learn from other business leaders in the area.” continued Colin.

The event is free of charge with 20 places available and refreshments on arrival and will be held in the Ground Floor Workshop in the Architecture Building at the University of Lincoln (LN6 7TS). To book call Freephone 0300 80 80 120 or email onlincolnshire@lincs-chamber.co.uk.

About onlincolnshire

• onlincolnshire is a Lincolnshire County Council-run project which is part-funded by the East Midlands European Regional Development Fund Programme 2007 to 2013.
• In March 2013, the council signed a £48 million contract with BT to provide superfast broadband to at least 88% of county properties by 2016, with the remaining properties having access to at least of 2Mbps broadband. A further investment of £2.8 million was announced in February 2014 which has increased the number of properties to 89%.
• The contract with BT concentrates on an intervention area of over 150,000 premises where existing or planned commercial roll outs would not deliver superfast speeds.
• The Department for Communities and Local Government is the managing authority for the European Regional Development Fund Programme, which is one of the funds established by the European Commission to help local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support local businesses and create jobs. For more information visit www.communities.gov.uk/erdf
• Some internet users in rural Lincolnshire experience speeds of less than 1 Mbps. The UK’s average broadband speed is 12 Mbps, according to Ofcom.
• onlincolnshire also offers up to 12 hours of support and advice to eligible Lincolnshire businesses to help them make the most of their access to improved broadband. Specialist consultants provide demonstrations, workshops, masterclasses or one-to-one coaching and mentoring to businesses to improve their services, processes, productivity and profitability.
