Harvey’s Search for a Forever Home Goes Viral

A rescue dog at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Broughton has touched the hearts of people from around the world, as a video of him taking a snooze reaches more than a million people.

Harvey, a seven-year-old Staffie who recently came into the North Lincolnshire centre, was filmed having a nap in the charity’s office by Centre Support Officer Paige Chappill. When she posted the video on the Jerry Green Facebook page, people were won over by the sleepy pup.

Paige said: “Harvey is a beautiful boy – he loves having company and we soon realised that the kennel environment didn’t suit him.

“I posted the video of him in my office in a bid to find him a forever home once he’s been fully assessed, and our supporters quickly got involved by sharing the post and commenting with words of encouragement.”

Within hours Paige and the Jerry Green Dog Rescue team were receiving messages from people as far away as Australia and the US enquiring after Harvey.

The social media star is currently undergoing a period of assessment with the centre team and should be available for rehoming soon, but Paige and the team are already on the lookout for a perfect home for him.

“We’re looking for someone who will act as a constant companion for Harvey,” said Paige. “Ideally someone working from home or who will be able to bring him with them for work, so he’s not alone all day.

“He has made friends with several of our other rescue dogs, and potential new owners who already have a dog at home or older children will be able to make use of our Meet & Match scheme to ensure that he’ll fit into the family dynamic.

“With so much interest in him already we’re hopeful he’ll be settling into his forever home soon.”

To watch the video, which has been viewed more by more than 450,000 people and has reached more than 1,152,000 since it was uploaded on 4th May, please visit the charity’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/121091981235176/videos/1170303099647387/

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
