Help Mend A Dog’s Broken Heart

Help mend a broken heart this Valentine’s Day and give a rescue dog the gift of love.

To help canines feel truly treasured, Jerry Green Dog Rescue is asking people to donate toys and treats as part of its Love Us, Love Our Dogs campaign.

Dog lovers can donate items to any of the charity’s five centres at Blidworth near Mansfield, Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire, Broughton near Brigg in North Lincolnshire, Algarkirk near Boston, South Lincolnshire and Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

The charity has set up shopping lists for each of the five centres on the internet shopping site, Amazon.

“Around Valentine’s Day we all like to make a loved one feel special and a dog’s love is unconditional,” said Catherine Foster, Head of Fundraising at Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“With over 160 rescue dogs in our care we want to make them feel loved again with delicious treats and exciting toys. While we help to find the perfect partner for our dogs, any donations will help to mend a broken heart.

“To make it easier for people who cannot visit our centres, we have a shopping list on Amazon where people can select a gift and have it posted directly to a specific dog.”

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

• Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
• Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
• Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
• Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
• Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a unique policy whereby prospective adopters are not shown the dogs in their kennels; instead the charity introduces individual dogs to adopters in a neutral environment which is less stressful for the dogs.

People who offer to rehome a Jerry Green dog do so as adopters, not owners. Jerry Green Dog Rescue retains ownership of its dogs and insists on a number of meetings and home visits before a dog is adopted.

The charity receives no official funding, nor does it receive any money from the National Lottery Fund. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors and sponsors.
