New Event Celebrates Women in Business

When comparing like for like businesses, women-owned firms often outperform those owned by men. But women are more likely to start their business without the right finance or effective networks in place.

That’s one reason why the first ever Lincolnshire Women’s Enterprise Day was held near Grantham on Tuesday (17th November), bringing over 100 business women together to share knowledge and expertise.

The event at the Belton Woods Hotel was packed full of insights from successful local business women such as chef Rachel Green and Jackie Booth, a nationally acclaimed leadership coach.

The aim of the day was to provide a platform for women in business to enable them to hear from a range of highly skilled and professional women.

The timetable allowed delegates to take in workshops on topics as diverse as cloud computing, social media and employing staff, and also to chat to business and finance experts such as Langley’s Solicitors and Wright Vigar Chartered Accountants.

Fiona White, Chief Executive of Community Lincs, the main sponsor and organiser of the event, said: “I am thrilled with the response we had to the day – everyone has been networking and swapping tips and the workshops and speakers have all been received exceptionally well.

“The day wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors the Lincolnshire Business Growth Hub, which is now part of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP, and the Lincolnshire Leadership and Management Centre; and of course all of our speakers have been so generous with their time.

“It’s just such a good feeling to be part of this day and we will certainly be holding another one next year.”

The event was part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and as a result of this initial success it is hoped that Community Lincs will receive recognition as a GEW High Impact Host, which recognises those who have brought together groups during the event week and made a distinct impression.

Following on from the day more events and activities for women in enterprise are being planned. To find out more, call Fiona on 01529 302466 or visit www.communitylincs.co.uk.
