OrderWise Scoops Training Excellence Award

Specialist software provider OrderWise has picked up the award for Training Excellence at the annual Lincolnshire Media Business Awards.

Guests at the ceremony, held at the Lincolnshire Showground, heard how the Saxilby-based firm is developing and supporting its staff to deliver its business management software.

OrderWise was also runner-up in the Medium Business of the Year category after fighting off competition from more than 100 other applicants.

OrderWise is a comprehensive all-in-one software solution for managing online and offline sales channels, customer relationships, stock control and warehouse management, purchasing, manufacturing and accounting activities.

The company provided two case studies about staff they have taken on and developed. These included Aaron Fernie, an IT apprentice who has been with the firm for more than 18 months and has ambitions to be a developer, and project manager Greg Downey, who started as an apprentice in 2010 and has progressed through technician roles to where he is today, dealing with clients in the US as well as locally.

Collecting the award on OrderWise’s behalf was Managing Director David Hallam, who was absolutely over the moon to receive the award.

He said: “I can see what we do works, but to be recognised for this from the outside is a very good feeling indeed.”

The judge’s citation said: “Crucially, the company recognises it takes a new starter six months to be fully competent in their new role.

“It’s remarkable that many of their key members of staff originally started as apprentices. In this industry, new versions of their software are released every month, so training is vital if staff are to understand their real-world application, the problems businesses are facing and how the new features will assist them.”

Jon Roberts, Marketing Manager at OrderWise, said: “Our staff are the company’s most valuable asset. As a service-orientated business it is their ability, experience and knowledge that helps set us apart from the competition, so investing in their development and training from day one makes perfect sense.

“We’re immensely proud of the success of our apprentices at a time when the value of this method of vocational training is being questioned.

“It goes to show that when the company and employee have the right approach and attitude an apprenticeship provides the perfect environment to develop staff of the highest calibre.”
