Residents Urged to Vote For Beautiful Brigg!

Independent shops, friendly faces and a heritage to be proud of. Brigg has it all, including a nomination as a finalist in the Great British High Street Awards!

Now the Brigg Town Business Partnership is urging residents to vote for the town in the nationwide competition, where it is up against 20 other finalists.

The judging will take place on Tuesday 27th October and will be carried out by representatives from Marks & Spencer and the Department for Communities and Local Government.

“We’re really excited to have Brigg become a finalist in the competition,” said Malcolm Bailey, Chair of the Brigg Town Business Partnership.

“Half the vote is now down to the public so we’re making sure we tell everyone to vote via our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/briggisbest, which has a link to the Great British High Street website.”

To be nominated, the Brigg Town Business Partnership had to show how the town has been collaborative, innovative and getting results.

“Ever since the Mary Portas high street campaign a few years ago a phrase has stuck with us – the high street is the heart of the community,” explained Malcolm. “With about 75% of shops here independently owned, Brigg supports its own economy and has great links with the community.

“We work with the local councils, Humberside Police and many societies and groups to make sure the town is a great place to visit and that people stop by and spend in our wonderful shops!”

Brigg Town Councillor and Mayor James Truepenny added: “It has been a great honour to be part of this process; businesses and residents have done an incredible job in getting Brigg into the public consciousness over the last few years.

“I’ve worked with the Brigg Town Business Partnership on several projects recently. This includes Briggstock, the town’s music festival.

“Brigg has got a great future as a retail location and stands up to other towns both locally and nationally as a great place to shop and to live!”

With a population of around 5,000, Brigg is a finalist alongside a variety of other towns such as Altrincham, Chipping Norton, Hoole and Prestatyn.
