Success is Bottom Line for Newly Qualified Accountants

Five employees of Duncan & Toplis have become qualified Chartered Accountants after passing their ACA exams.

Ruth Speirs and Daniel Smithson (Newark office), Oli Phillips and Sarah Carter (Lincoln office) and Alex Beck (Grantham office) were the successful students.

Ruth Speirs (27) lives in North Hykeham and joined Duncan & Toplis in 2010. Prior to joining the firm she had been studying for the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification through home learning. She completed her studies at Newark College once she started working for Duncan & Toplis.

Daniel Smithson (27) lives in Newark and has worked at Duncan & Toplis since 2012. He also holds a degree in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Lincoln.

Oli Phillips (26) has a degree in Accounting, Business Finance and Management and a Masters in Management with Business Finance from the University of York. He lives in Newark and was the driving force behind last year’s Riding for Ryan cycle challenge which raised £3,752 for the Ryan Smith Foundation.

Sarah Carter (24) lives in Lincoln and took up her post at Duncan & Toplis as an AAT trainee after completing her A-levels.

Alex Beck (24) juggles accountancy with semi-professional football – he plays as a striker for Boston Town FC in the United Counties League and has already scored nine goals this season.

He lives in Boston and graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2012 with a degree in Accountancy and Finance.

“I’d like to congratulate our latest crop of students who have successfully completed their ACA studies with us,” said Ian Phillips, Deputy Managing Director of Duncan & Toplis.

“They have had to work hard and apply themselves and I am sure they will continue to make a very positive contribution to our business.”
