The British F1 Sidecar Championship is moving across the sea to the TT circuit in Assen in the Netherlands for the penultimate round.

Sidecar driver Ricky Stevens, from Portsmouth, and his passenger Ryan Charlwood, from Dover, will be catching a ferry to the continent later this week for the eighth round (30^th September to 2^nd October) in the championship. As this is the penultimate round, the team will be hatching plans to further extend their lead and secure their title.

Ricky and Ryan have won five races and have been on the podium at every round so far. They currently lead the championship by 49 points, which is a good advantage – but it doesn’t guarantee them the title yet.

In Assen they will go head to head with the main title challengers Ben Holland and Lee Watson as well as Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze.

Ryan said: “We love Assen, it’s one of our favourite circuits and we always look forward to racing there.

“We have a comfortable advantage in the championship now but we have to keep our eyes on the prize nonetheless. Our main goal at this stage is to distance ourselves even further from the other teams and if we can get a few more wins, all the better.”

Ricky and Ryan demonstrated their racing skills at the previous round when they managed to give chase to the two most decorated teams in the world championship. This has given them renewed confidence for the last two rounds.

Ricky said: “The last race at Donington was a dream come true. To be up there with the very best shows just how far we’ve come since we started racing together in 2012.

“We’re so close to winning the championship again this year, it is within our reach if we race smart. I can’t wait to show what we’re made of in Assen.”
