BGU Gets Behind Gothic-themed Lincoln Book Festival

The Lincoln Book Festival is ‘Going Gothic’ this year and Bishop Grosseteste University is sponsoring a variety of events during the week from 25th to 30th September.

 The festival invites visitors to explore the Gothic at events celebrating the genre throughout the city. Literature, history, art and architecture are all part of the festival line-up, whose theme is ‘History at its heart’.

BGU is sponsoring a free workshop for local schools and colleges on Gothic literature at the University of Lincoln. Experts on the Gothic from both BGU and the University of Lincoln will jointly run the event on Wednesday 27th September from 12 noon to 2.30pm.

On Thursday 28th September at 6.15pm Dr Claudia Capancioni from BGU will chair an evening of Victorian Truths and Gothic Mysteries at The Collection in Lincoln with Dr Scott Brewster from the University of Lincoln.

The evening will feature a talk from award-winning historian and biographer Kathryn Hughes telling Tales of Flesh in the Ages of Decorum.

At the same event author Diane Setterfield will present her talk on Fiction of a Gothic Disposition.

The final BGU-sponsored event of the festival is An Afternoon of Architecture – Revived and Inspiring at the Robert Hardy Building at BGU’s uphill Lincoln campus on Saturday 30th September at 2.30pm. Dr Claudia Capancioni wiIl host and Dr Jim Cheshire from the University of Lincoln will chair.

Geoff Brandwood will guide his audience through the revival of Gothic Architecture Victorian style and discuss the churches of Sir Gilbert Scott, including many examples in Lincolnshire.

Author Pamela Holmes will also be speaking at the event.

The Lincoln Book Festival takes place from 25th to 30th September 2017 across a range of locations in Lincoln.
