Brew Up and Help a Pup at Curiositea

Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln is set to host a tea party in its Alice and Wonderland themed café to raise funds to ensure dogs find a loving and permanent home.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is launching its annual Brew Up, Help a Pup campaign at BGU on Saturday 9th May 2015.

The Mad Hatter’s themed tea party will take place at the university’s Alice in Wonderland themed Curiositea café from 10am to 2pm to help raise much needed funds for Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

Jenny Harris, fund raiser at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “We are delighted that Bishop Grosseteste University has come on board to host a Brew Up event at its quirky and fittingly themed coffee shop!

“Brew Up, Help a Pup is a great excuse for people to catch up with loved ones and enjoy a delicious treat all in the name of a good cause!”

Rafferty, a Newfoundland breed dog, will be present at the event alongside other members of Jerry Green Dog Rescue staff. They will be on hand to answer questions, give advice and sell treats and toys for dogs.

A percentage of the proceeds from tea, coffee and cake sales at Curiositea will be donated to the dog rescue charity.

The charity has five centres at Thirsk in North Yorkshire, Blidworth in Nottinghamshire, Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire, Broughton in North Lincolnshire and Algarkirk in Lincolnshire and aims to find forever homes for over 800 dogs every year.

Brew Up Week will officially run from Monday 25th until Saturday 30th May and the charity is urging its supporters to host an event in that week to boost its coffers.

Jenny added: “Whether you’re a coffee lover or a tea drinker we’re asking people who care about animals to ‘paws’ for a brew and do their bit for their local dog rescue centre.

“With operating costs of £1.5 million, the support of local dog lovers is invaluable to help us rescue and re-home even more dogs. It’s surprising the difference a fundraising cuppa can really make!”

Supporters wanting to host their own event can register for a fundraising pack from Jerry Green Dog Rescue by calling 01652 650886 or sending an email to fundraising@jerrygreendogs.org.uk.

Notes to editors:

• The Brew Up, Help a Pup campaign will launch at Bishop Grosseteste University’s Curiositea café on Saturday 9th May 2015.

• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
