Brewing Up to Give Dogs New Homes

A well known pet shop will open its doors to a leading dog’s charity to raise funds to ensure dogs find a loving and permanent home.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Thirsk will host its annual Brew Up, Help a Pup event at Pets at Home in Northallerton on 19th May 2015 from 1pm until 4pm.

Animal lovers passing through the store will have the opportunity to support the dog charity by purchasing cakes that will be on sale on the day.

Jenny Harris, fund raiser at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “We are delighted that Pets at Home in Northallerton has come on board to support our dogs by hosting a Brew Up event in store.

“Brew Up, Help a Pup is a great way for people to learn about the facilities that we provide to dogs in need of a home and enjoy a delicious treat!”

Jess, an 11-year-old Labrador and former Jerry Green rescue dog, who has now been rehomed, will be present at the event alongside other members of Jerry Green Dog Rescue staff. They will be on hand to answer questions and give advice about the charity’s fostering and adoption services.

Jerry Green staff will also be selling raffle tickets for £1 each. Entrants will be in with a chance of winning top cash prizes of £500, £200 or £100. The raffle will be drawn at the final Jerry Green Dog Rescue summer show in East Yorkshire on 27th September 2015.

The charity has five centres at Thirsk in North Yorkshire, Blidworth in Nottinghamshire, Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire, Broughton in North Lincolnshire and Algarkirk in Lincolnshire and aims to find forever homes for over 800 dogs every year.

This year’s Brew Up, Help a Pup campaign has a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme and will officially run from Monday 25th until Saturday 30th May. The charity is urging its supporters to host an event in that week to boost its coffers.

Jenny added: “With operating costs of £1.5 million, the support of local dog lovers is invaluable to help us rescue and re-home even more dogs. It’s surprising the difference a fundraising cupcake can really make!”

Supporters wanting to host their own event can register for a fundraising pack from Jerry Green Dog Rescue by calling 01652 650886 or sending an email to fundraising@jerrygreendogs.org.uk.

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
