Businesses Get Quizzical for a Good Cause

Quizzical minds were out in force this week to take part in a fundraising quiz run by leading chartered accountants Duncan & Toplis.

On Wednesday (25th May) the accountancy firm hosted a quiz night at Burton Road Chippy in Lincoln to raise funds for paracyclist and Rio Paralympics hopeful Liz McTernan.

The event was attended by more than 60 people and included a fish and chip supper between rounds of questions on music, the Olympics and Paralympics, Lincolnshire places, films and general knowledge.

The 15 teams of four included representatives from local firms Chattertons, LK2, Andrew & Co LLP, Langleys, Banks Long & Co and Wilkin Chapman LLP and with a raffle also held at the end of the night managed to raise a total of £776.

Quizmaster Mark Taylor, a Director at Duncan & Toplis said: “We’re delighted to have raised so much money in one night and it was wonderful to see so many local businesses come out to support a local athlete.

“Hearing from Liz, who was able to join us for the quiz, was truly inspirational. We wish her all the best in her training as she aims to join the GB team.”

Liz, who competes in the Women’s Handbike 4 (WH4) category and is seventh in the world, hopes to be selected for Team GB for the Paralympic Games in Brazil in September 2016.

A team from Lloyds were eventually crowned winners, following a tie breaker question between them and a team from Duncan & Toplis which featured Liz as a member.

Liz will add the funds raised from the quiz to the £1,500 that Duncan & Toplis recently donated to replace her damaged bike following a couple of crashes last year.
