Charities Overwhelmed by Golf Day Fundraising

Sixty-four teams representing businesses and organisations from across the East Midlands teed off for the 25th Duncan & Toplis Charity Golf Day and raised £8,000 for Lincolnshire charities.

The funds, which were raised by those taking part and through sponsorship packages, were split between Canine Partners Rutland & Lincolnshire Support Group (which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary) and Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service (LEBBS).

“Thanks to such a generous and unexpected donation from the Duncan & Toplis Golf Day our goal to expand the service and purchase an additional motorcycle has been realised,” said Martin Wright, Treasurer at LEBBS.

“Not only will this improve the service we offer by allowing quicker response times to both Boston and Grantham hospitals, it will also mean we’re able to reach Grimsby Hospital using the Boston-based riders.”

Belton Woods was the setting for the 25th Annual Duncan & Toplis Charity Golf Day, in which ladies’, gents’ and mixed teams played both the Lakes and the Woodside courses.

The winners on the Lakes course were RLD, represented by Paul Roper, Mick Sims and Max Sims, with 83 points. The Woodside and overall winners were Paul McCooey, Scott Patten and Jonathan Graves from Skegness, with 88 points.

This latest fundraising effort means that the East Midlands firm of chartered accountants and business advisers has raised £77,850 for charitable causes from its golf days over the last quarter-century.

Helen Watkinson, Midlands Regional Fundraiser for Canine Partners, said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed by the amount which was raised during the golf day.

“£4,000 will provide a significant contribution to the cost of a Canine Partners aftercare programme in Lincolnshire.”

Lisa Pask, a member of the organising committee at Duncan & Toplis, added: “We would like to thank everyone who took part and all the sponsors who supported the day. Without their commitment the day would not have been the success that it was.

“We have raised more than twice as much during this golf day as those previously and couldn’t be more pleased to be able to pass those funds on to Canine Partners Rutland & Lincolnshire Support Group and LEBBS.

“Particular thanks this year go to Belton Woods for their generosity for our 25th anniversary year and also to the green keepers for the excellent condition of both courses.”
