Charity Hosts Summer Fair With A Difference

Forget bouncy castles and face-painting – come along to a summer fair with a difference in Thirsk next week.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is hosting a dog-themed summer show at its North Yorkshire centre in Thirsk on Sunday 8th June from 11.30am to 4.30pm for only £1 entry per adult, under 16’s go free.

The event will have dog agility demonstrations and specialist dog stalls selling dog treats, photography, books and plants. Children can make their own dog toys for their pet or for rescue dogs at the centre and learn about dog body language.

Dogs are welcome on the day and can be entered into the charity’s competition for the waggiest tail or coolest pup. People who don’t have a dog can meet some of the rescue dogs looking for a new home.

Visitors can enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or a slice of cake and refreshments at the ‘Brew Up Help a Pup’ café area too.

“Whether you’re a dog-owner or not, our summer show has something for everyone. Families and children are invited to come along to meet a selection of the rescue dogs, see some dog agility and learn about dog body language,” said Kate Birkett, Area Manager for Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“Dogs are welcome too and can even have a go at the dog agility with their owners. Speak to our friendly team about rehoming a dog, take a look at our stalls that will be selling dog treats, plants and some great gift ideas – all this for just £1 entry.

“All the proceeds will help us to look after rescue dogs in our care before finding them the perfect new home.”

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

• Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
• Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
• Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
• Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
• Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
