Charity Hosts Summer Show With A Difference

Forget bouncy castles and face-painting – come along to a summer show with a difference in Algarkirk, near Boston this weekend!

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is hosting a dog-themed summer show at its South Lincolnshire centre in Algarkirk on Sunday 10th August from 11.30am to 4.30pm. It’s only £1 entry per adult and under-16s go free.

The event will have a fun dog show, agility demonstrations where owners are welcome to have a go with their dogs and the rescue dog walkabout; visitors will get to see and meet the centre’s 25 rescue dogs as they walk around the event with volunteers and staff.

The kids’ activity zone will keep little ones entertained and teach them about dog body language and behaviour, there will be colouring in competitions, educational games and a chance to make treat boxes for the rescue dogs. Children can also have a go at scanning Cindy the stuffed dog to learn about micro-chipping.

There will be various stalls selling dog treats, dog toys, Christmas cards, calendars, bespoke photography and much more. A live acoustic duo will be performing and for the more adventurous there will be replica tanks on site too!

People who don’t have a dog can meet some of the rescue dogs looking for a new home and visitors can relax with a choice of hot or cold food in the BBQ area offering hand-made cakes, a sweets stall and drinks.

“Whether you’re a dog owner or not, our summer show has something for everyone. This year our team is excited to welcome both old and new visitors to what we hope will be our best event to date,” said Jo Hickson, Centre Manager for Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“Speak to our friendly team about rehoming a dog, take a look at our stalls and get involved with our varied activities – all this for just £1 entry.

“All the proceeds will help us to look after rescue dogs in our care before finding them the perfect new home.”

The charity has hosted three summer events across all its centres so far, and the next event will take place on Sunday 28th September at the East Yorkshire centre in Gilberdyke.

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

• Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
• Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
• Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
• Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
• Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
