Charity to Host Summer Show with a Difference

Looking for a fun day out for all the family? Come along to a summer show with a difference in Catton, Thirsk!

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is hosting a summer show at its North Yorkshire centre in Catton, on Sunday 21st June from 11.30am to 4.30pm. It’s only £1 entry per adult and under-16s go free.

The event will include a showcase of scent-work demonstrations by Morag Heirs of Well Connected Canine. Dog owners are welcome to have a go at agility with their dogs too.

There will also be a fun dog show which will feature 10 different classes, including Junior Jerry’s: Child Handler, Best Veteran (eight years plus), Coolest Pup (16 weeks to one year) and Best Fancy Dress. Entries will be taken from 11.30am on the day and cost £1 per dog, per class. Judging will begin at midday.

The kids’ activity zone will keep little ones entertained, with activities to teach them about dog body language and behaviour; there will also be colouring in competitions, educational games and a chance to make treat boxes for the rescue dogs. Children can also have a go at scanning the stuffed dog to learn about micro-chipping.

Visitors are invited to get involved in the adopted rescue dog walkabout and take a look at various stalls selling dog treats, plants, jewellery, craft items and much more.

People who don’t have a dog can find out more about the rescue dogs currently looking for a forever home and relax with a choice of hot or cold drinks and food. Entertainment on the day will be provided by a live band, The Koostix.

“Whether you’re a dog owner or not, our summer show has something for everyone,” said Diane Marsden, Centre Manager for Jerry Green Dog Rescue. “This year our team is excited to welcome both old and new visitors to what we hope will be our best event to date. If you are interested in having a trade or craft table contact us for more information or a booking form.”

“You can speak to our friendly team about rehoming a dog, take a look at our stalls and enter your pet into the dog show – all this for just £1 entry!

“All the proceeds will help us to look after rescue dogs in our care before finding them the perfect new forever home.”

The charity is hosting summer events across all of its centres. Other events will take place on Sunday 12th July at the North Lincolnshire centre in Broughton, Sunday 16th August at the South Lincolnshire centre in Algarkirk, Sunday 23rd August at the newly built Nottinghamshire centre in Blidworth and Sunday 27th September at the East Yorkshire centre in Gilberdyke.
