Cool FAB Racing Showdown at Mallory Park

There’s just over a week to go until the final round of the Cool FAB Racing British Minibike Championship at Mallory Park in Leicestershire (28th to 30th October), and what a fantastic end to the season it promises to be!

At the previous round at Red Lodge Karting 10-year-old Harvey Claridge from Steyning, West Sussex secured the MiniGP 50 2016 championship title with a 112-point lead while 11-year-old Josh Whatley from Evesham in Worcestershire clinched the Junior LC40 the championship title with a 113-point lead.

However, there’s still everything to race for as second and third places remain in close contention and the title spot in the MiniGP 70, AC40 Pro, AC40 Rookies, MiniF1 Sidecars, Pit Bike 140, MotoTeam and Senior Minimoto classes is still up for grabs.

One of the most anticipated classes is the MiniGP 70 with only four points separating Franco Bourne, aged 12 from County Durham, who is currently in the lead with 353 points, and Josh Whatley in second. Scott Ogden, aged 12 from Doncaster, is also not far behind in third with 343 points so the championship is still wide open.

MD of Cool Motor Racing Crispin Vitoria explained: “We’ve had a really exciting 2016 season both on and off the track so we’re really looking forward to ending on a high with the Cool FAB Racing British Minibike Championship showdown at Mallory Park!

“We’re lucky to have some exceptionally talented riders in the series and I can’t wait to see them battle it out for the top championship positions. Of course everyone wants to take home a trophy but it’s also about taking part and having fun.

“Our ultimate aim is to encourage more youngsters to get involved in the sport to help us find more future British and world champions and we hope that by this time next year we’ll have double the number of riders registering to compete in the series.”

Owing to noise restrictions, no racing is allowed to take place on the Saturday so instead there will be a day of fun activities including family pushbike races on the track, a Halloween-themed fancy dress competition and a T-shirt design competition.

Swedish British Superbike star Filip Backlund will also be sharing his experiences of being a professional motorcycle racer while Motorsport Radio commentators Tom Brooks and Lester Forbes will be giving the kids some media training and doing mock interviews.

Practice, qualifying and racing will take place on Friday 28th October with more races planned for Sunday 30th October.

Anyone who can’t attend can still follow the action on motorsport-radio.com which will be broadcasting live from the circuit.
