Every Dog Has His Christmas Day

Move over Mog, do you have space for a dog? Animal charity Jerry Green Dog Rescue is calling on canine carers to consider fostering a dog this Christmas.

The charity, which has cared for and rehomed more than 1,000 dogs this year, is asking dog lovers to consider fostering a dog during the Christmas holidays, in a bid to spread some festive cheer.

Jacqui Bell, CEO at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “If you have some free time on your hands this Christmas or you’re looking for some companionship then please consider fostering a rescue dog.

“Many of our supporters who are passionate about dogs and dog welfare are unable to take on the full-time long-term commitment of dog adoption due to long working hours and the other obligations of modern life.

“But with the festive period offering many of us a precious few days and weeks off, it could be a great opportunity to think about the difference you could make by opening your heart and your home to a rescue dog.

“Fosterers will work with their local centre to find an appropriate dog that matches their way of life and circumstances. We’re looking for potential fosterers who might have a quiet Christmas planned this year and are looking for a rescue dog to love.”

Fostering a rescue dog will provide temporary owners with an excuse to get out in the fresh air and stretch their legs after the indulgence of Christmas. But it will also offer some respite for the dogs themselves, some of which find the rehoming process difficult.

“Some dogs find the kennel environment quite stressful, especially when they’re used to living in a home with lots of attention,” said Jacqui. “But offering a short-term place in your home can provide a dog with wonderful respite from kennel life, while our rehoming team strives to find them a permanent and loving adoptive home.”

Jacqui added: “Fostering one dog won’t change the world, but for that one dog, the world will change forever.”

If you’re interested in fostering a dog over the Christmas period please get in touch with the team at your local centre, who will be more than happy to help match you up with your ‘pawfect’ Christmas companion.

The charity has five centres, including Thirsk in North Yorkshire, Blidworth in Nottinghamshire, Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire, Broughton in North Lincolnshire and Algarkirk in Lincolnshire.

• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
