Staff at The Elite Fish & Chip Company are celebrating after being nominated for a prestigious award that recognises the work that it does in the community and with local charities.

Having recently been nominated for the Seafish Independent Takeaway of the Year 2017 and won a special recognition award at the Red Ribbon Family Business Awards, the family-run fish and chip chain has been nominated for the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award at the Midlands Family Business Awards.

Owner Adrian Tweedale said: “We are incredibly proud to have been named as a finalist in these awards, particularly as it concerns our charity fundraising. Having put so much effort into helping the communities in which we trade every day, it is brilliant to have this recognition.

“We like to make sure that we help those around us and try and make an impact on whichever community we serve. We picked the Poppy Appeal this year as it is close to so many of our customers’ hearts. Lincolnshire is a forces county and we wanted to salute them in our own way.”

The judges mentioned that this was a strong entry, thanks to the Elite’s generous Christmas Wish campaign, its work with young athletes locally and its high-profile campaign to raise £10,000 this year for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal with help from staff, customers, friends and family.

Adrian added: “This year has seen us step up not only our fundraising enthusiasm, but also the events which we hold at the restaurants and takeaways. We’ve had nights of live music, quizzes, people dressed as poppies and much more besides.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my staff and customers for being so generous and if we are lucky enough to win the award, it will be dedicated to them. We estimate that we’ve raised more than £100,000 over the last 25 years of trading.”

As well as being shortlisted in the CSR category, the company is automatically eligible for the People’s Choice Award, which is voted for by the general public via www.familybusinessawards.co.uk.

Elite’s loyal customers, clients and suppliers are invited to show their support by voting via the website when it launches on Monday 3rd October. It will close at the end of October and the business with the most votes will be presented with a winner award while the runner-up will be highly commended.

Representatives from The Elite will be attending the award ceremony at the Great Hall in Birmingham University on 17th November.
