Horsing Around with Jerry Green Dog Rescue

Has your faithful hound got what it takes to be crowned top of his class? A leading dog rescue charity is set to host a fun dog show during the Belton International Horse Trials this weekend.

Staff and volunteers from Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s Algarkirk centre are set to host a fun dog show within the grounds of Belton House on 16th and 17th April during the world-famous three-day event.

The show will feature 10 different classes including Most Handsome Chap, Loveliest Lady, Best Conditioned, Most Like Its Owner and Best Rescue Dog. The cost for entering is £1 per dog per class and all proceeds will go to the dog rescue charity.

Jo Hickson, Centre Manager for Jerry Green Dog Rescue, said: “The three-day event is an opportunity to celebrate the cream of the crop, in both equine and canine categories.

“The dog show is open to all, whether you’re just starting out or you’re fresh from Crufts, come along and see if your dog has what it takes to be crowned class winner or best in show.”

The charity’s stall and show ring will be set up next to the Nottingham Trent Arena. Registration for the Jerry Green Fun Dog Show will open at 9am and the first class will commence at 11.30am. The final class of the day will begin at 2.50pm.

Jo added: “We’re pleased to be returning to the horse trials again this year, our Jerry Green Fun Dog Show is always well attended, so if you’re interested in taking part we suggest you arrive early to register.

“If anyone attending the trials is interested in rehoming one of our rescue dogs there will be staff and volunteers on hand to provide advice and guidance; come along and say hello!”

With operating costs of £1.5 million and five centres across the region, the support of dog lovers, through events like this, is invaluable to help Jerry Green Dog Rescue continue to rescue and re-home dogs.

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
