It’s Fun to Meet Up with the YMCA

Lincolnshire YMCA is taking to the streets of Lincoln to promote the many services and facilities it offers to people living and working in the county.

The charity’s outreach and engagement day will take place on Thursday 9th April 2015 in Lincoln City Square from 10am to 4pm.

Many of the projects run by Lincolnshire YMCA will be showcasing their services on the day, including The Fitness Centre on St Rumbold Street in Lincoln, the Lincolnshire YMCA nurseries – YMCA Woodland Daycare in Lincoln and YMCA Beginnings Daycare in Gainsborough – The Showroom Conference and Activity Centre and the Nomad Trust & Lincolnshire YMCA housing department.

Malcolm Barham, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire YMCA, explained: “A lot of people in the local community do not realise the wide range of services that the charity provides.

“Not only do we support those in need of shelter or rehabilitation, we also work with businesses and residents. The Showroom on Tritton Road in Lincoln for example doubles as a conference and activity centre, hosting a vast number of corporate events as well as youth engagement projects.

“I am hopeful that our outreach and engagement day will make people aware of what is available to them on their doorstep.”

During the event members of the public will have the chance to take part in some of the charities activities, including free fitness tests by the Lincolnshire YCMA Fitness Centre. There will also be a mobile climbing wall, similar to the one at The Showroom Conference and Activity Centre, a soft play area and arts and crafts for the children.

Fiona Moon, Activity Centre Supervisor, said: “The event will be a great way of promoting all the services people may not know about, for example the affordable youth and fitness centres and children’s day care.

“We also offer a range of Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level two training courses in first aid, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and health and safety.”

Malcolm added: “The aim of Lincolnshire YMCA and The Nomad Trust is to support people in our local community by providing them with accessible and affordable facilities in the areas of fitness, childcare, youth work, skill training and housing – at a realistic and affordable price.”
