Knitters Unite for the Great Doggy Knit Off!

If you’re looking for an exciting new knitting project this autumn, why not join the Great Doggy Knit Off and help keep rescue dogs cosy this winter?

One of the UK’s leading dog charities, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, is calling for knitters and craft groups to unite and knit jumpers, snoods, hats, blankets or toys to help keep dogs without a home comfortable in cold weather.

The charity cares for over 160 dogs across five centres in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire but during the winter months puppies, short-haired dogs and older dogs can particularly feel the cold.

“If you’re a dab hand with the knitting needles we would love you to support our Great Doggy Knit Off and donate knitted items for rescue dogs without a home,” said Catherine Foster, Head of Fundraising at Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“We take our dogs out for walks every day and like to make their kennels as comfortable as possible. But in the cold weather some of our dogs do really feel the cold so simple things jumpers, snoods, blankets and toys can make a big difference.

“Whether you love to knit or crochet, we don’t mind and the dogs certainly don’t either! Any knitted items will be gratefully received and will help to keep our dogs cosy until they find their forever home.”

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
