Newark Director Clocks Up 40 Years with Duncan & Toplis
A Director of Duncan & Toplis based in the Newark office has celebrated 40 years with the company.
Ian Phillips joined the firm’s Grantham office in 1975 straight from the King’s School after his A-levels when Duncan & Toplis had only four offices and around 125 staff – compared to ten offices and around 350 employees today.
Ten years later he moved to take up a senior manager role at the Newark office following a merger, and in 1989 he and his team moved into the company’s existing office on London Road.
Following another merger in 2001 Ian took on responsibility for the opening of Duncan & Toplis’ new Lincoln office before returning to Newark in 2006.
He is now Head of IT for the practice and Deputy Managing Director, having sat on the Management Board since its inception.
Ian’s 40th anniversary was celebrated in style when 50 of his colleagues threw him a surprise dinner party at the Caunton Beck pub in Nottinghamshire.
“It is not very often I am lost for words but when I turned up for what I thought was going to be a dinner with six or seven of the local directors I was truly surprised and stunned,” said Ian.
“We all work hard but what has made my career at Duncan & Toplis so enjoyable is that I have nice clients who appreciate what we do for them and nice teams with whom it is a pleasure to work.”
