Mobility specialists Obam Stairlifts sponsored the Child of Courage Award at the Heart of Lincolnshire Community Awards this week.

On Tuesday 13th September the annual award ceremony which celebrates the unsung heroes from communities across Lincolnshire was held at The Showroom on Tritton Road, Lincoln.

Representatives from Obam Stairlifts, which is based in Sturton-by-Stow near Gainsborough, were in attendance alongside finalists from the 11 award categories, their families and other sponsors.

The Child of Courage winner was Keira Beeson, a 12-year old who suffers from Crohn’s disease. Despite being booked in for surgery earlier this year to remove her large bowel and create an ileostomy, Keira focused on raising awareness and £10,000 for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

As well as being named this year’s Child of Courage winner Keira was also awarded the Overall Winner of the Heart of Lincolnshire Community Awards.

Obam Stairlifts Sales Manager Mark Buckley said: “The awards were a brilliant opportunity to congratulate some of the extraordinary people within our communities, many of whom have gone the extra mile or overcome the odds to achieve something exceptional.

“We jumped at the chance to sponsor the Child of Courage award as we believe in celebrating what people can achieve when they face difficult challenges.”

During the ceremony Mark presented a highly commended certificate to Stacy Southwell whose daughter Sophie Robinson battled for two years with a brain tumour.

Sophie sadly lost her fight in January this year, but despite her illness she raised a phenomenal £35,000 for the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre.

Mark also presented a finalist certificate to Thomas Talbot, a national and international RaceRunner who suffered permanent brain damage at birth and who also has cerebral palsy.

“It was important to the judges to recognise all of the children who were finalists in this year’s ceremony. What each of them has accomplished in terms of fundraising and sporting achievements is outstanding,” Mark added.

“I hope that the awards and these children in particular act as an inspiration to others in our communities – they are perfect examples of what we can achieve if we work together.”
