Selston Supporter Single-Handedly Organises Charity Fundraiser

Animal rescue charity Jerry Green Dog Rescue has congratulated a supporter from Selston after she organised a fun dog show and raised £1,200 for the cause.

Inspired by the work of Jerry Green Dog Rescue, which cares for rescue dogs at its eco-friendly centre in Blidworth, Teresa Holmes (47) hosted a fun dog show at Selston Parish Hall on Sunday 3rd April.

Teresa, from Selston, has been fundraising for various causes that are close to her heart for a number of years.

After her father was diagnosed and died of cancer, Teresa began supporting the work of Macmillan and Cancer Research UK and, more recently, has channelled her love of dogs by helping Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

The fun dog show, which was organised solely by Teresa, welcomed people of all ages and one man – whose dog won best in show – even travelled across Nottinghamshire to attend.

As well as a fun dog show, in which people entered their dogs for a chance to win a rosette, there were lots of other family-friendly activities on offer including face painting, a bouncy castle and a raffle.

Teresa, who has been a foster carer for the last two years, said: “I am delighted to have raised so much, especially in one day. I never expected the response I had, and I would like to thank everyone who attended and made the day so enjoyable.

“I would also love to thank everyone who gave their time to help me out on the day, especially my friends Emma Olden and Louise Wilson; without them it wouldn’t have been the success it was.

“I am so pleased with how well the event was received that I’ve already decided to host another fun dog show for Jerry Green next year.”

The event took inspiration from the charity’s own fun dog shows, which are often hosted alongside other events as a family-friendly way to raise extra funds for the charity.

Cathy Robinson, Centre Support Officer at Jerry Green, said: “We are overwhelmed by Teresa’s fundraising efforts and impressed by her proactivity.

“We are always extremely grateful to anyone who is able to donate – financially or otherwise – so that we are able maintain the high standards of care we deliver to dogs every day.”

Notes to editors:
Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
