Simone Says Brave the Shave!

A woman who has never cut her hair is taking the plunge and shaving it all off in the hope of raising £500 for two charities on Sunday 23rd August.

Blidworth-based Simone Dewis (26) will be taking part this year’s Brave the Shave campaign to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

Simone will have all of her hair shaved off during the dog rescue centre’s annual summer show, which coincides with the official opening of the brand new rescue facility in Blidworth, on Sunday 23rd August from 11.30am until 4.30pm.

Having worked at Jerry Green’s Nottinghamshire centre for five years as a kennel welfare assistant, Simone knows how vital fundraising is to the continued work of the charity.

Simone, whose hair has never been cut or dyed, is using the opportunity to raise money for another charity close to her heart. She said: “Macmillan is currently providing support and care to my Aunty Helen, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

“She is the bravest person I know, she has kept on working and doing all the things she has always wanted to do, whilst organising the future. If she can do all that, then I decided I can get my head shaved!”

Anyone who would like to donate can do so via Simone’s Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/simone-dewis/ or her Brave the Shave page: bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/simone-dewis/

The head shave will take place at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Warsop Lane, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, NG21 0PG on Sunday 23rd August at 11.30am.

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.

If you are unable to attend but would like to receive photographs from the day please contact Kerri Saxby on kerri@weareshootingstar.co.uk or 01522 528 540.

Notes to editors:

• Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Warsop Lane, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, NG21 0PG
Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
• Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
• The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
• The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
