Volunteers Give Dog Centre Spring Makeover

A leading dog rescue charity in South Lincolnshire has taken spring cleaning to a whole new level and has received a spring makeover in just one day, thanks to a group of 20 volunteers.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s main reception building and dog kennels in Algarkirk were given a spruce up and a lick of paint on Sunday 27th April.

The team was organised by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Services with funding support from the Employer Supported Volunteering Project.

“We are delighted to have worked with LCVS to achieve such fantastic results for our centre and more importantly, without costing the charity a penny,” said Jo Hickson, Centre Manager for Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“We are so grateful to everyone who donated their time so generously and look forward to welcoming visitors to our newly revamped centre. While the dogs are also delighted with their new environment, we hope to rehome some of our four-legged friends as a result.”

Jo Herbert, Volunteering Officer at LCVS, said: “We were so pleased to have the chance to work with our local dog rescue centre; our volunteers enjoyed taking part enormously and felt a real sense of pride in what they had achieved.”

Elwood Briggs and Turner Vets were main sponsors for the project, which was also supported by Pilgrim Veterinary Surgery and Julie Holland. Discounted paint and materials were supplied by Turnbull’s.

The Jerry Green Dog Rescue centre is located at Marsh Lane, Algarkirk, South Lincolnshire and is open 1.30pm to 4pm seven days a week. Telephone 01205 260546.

If any local businesses would like to know more about Employer Supported Volunteering or any voluntary or community groups have ideas for tasks they would like to be considered for the ESV Project they should contact Jo Herbert on 01205 365588 or email joanne.h@lincolnshire.cvs.org.uk

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

• Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
• Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
• Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
• Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
• Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
